The MacDuffie School
The MacDuffie School is a co-educational, independent school for students in grades 6 through 12, with a boarding program in the upper school. The school is located in Springfield, an urban area of approximately 152,000 people and is situated on a hill in a historic residential neighbourhood 2 hours outside of Boston. This location provides easy access to cultural and sporting events as well as shopping and recreation, including movies, bowling, etc. Within a few minutes drive is the Five College Area including: University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Smith College and Mt. Holyoke College. These colleges are a vast resource to MacDuffie in both science and culture.
The atmosphere of this urban school, with its rich diversity, is both supportive and challenging. The School prepares its students for college and for productive lives in the modern world. Each student is expected to develop the skills needed for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship.

Dormitories and School Residences
Students live in five large, gracious homes on the School’s residential campus. MacDuffie staff and their families serve as hosts and on-campus guardians for the students. Up to seven students per house become part of each family, receiving the support, individual attention, and personal supervision that only a family setting can provide. House parents take an active interest in how their students are progressing in school and are always willing to discuss problems with them. The small number of students living in each house makes it possible to know each other well and to learn about each other’s cultures. Dormitories are large historic homes with telephone, TV and internet access. Most student rooms are doubles often with a private bathroom. There are 6-8 students in each home.
