Maine Central Institute

Founded in 1866, Maine Central Institute (MCI) retains much of its original spirit and philosophy. The institute pledges to provide a rigorous, comprehensive educational program to a multicultural student body with a wide range of abilities and interests. In a safe and caring atmosphere, students acquire knowledge, self-esteem, social responsibility and the critical thinking and communication skills necessary for global citizenship and lifelong learning.

MCI and the town of Pittsfield emulate what life in Maine should be. The state has a long history and tradition of welcoming friends and visitors. Students feel safe and accepted by this community of 4,500 people. In this welcoming environment, day students and residential students both have found a unique way of coming together. This welcoming, accepting and friendly attitude is what the state of Maine is known for!
