Northwood School plans new girls dormitory

August 11, 2008

In order to serve the female boarding population by offering a modern facility, and bring the building up to the standard set by campus-wide renovations, Northwood School's Board of Trustees has focused its most recent planning efforts on the construction of a new dormitory for the boarding girls.

Paramount in its deliberations is the notion of integrating the new building into the central section of the campus by connecting it to the Allyn Building. This would offer the female population both the access and ambiance to classrooms, dining room, the main living room, student center, fitness center and auditorium as their male counterparts. This totally indoor access is critical to the social and cultural fabric of the school.

The design program of the building includes three floors of dormitory rooms, a basement floor of laundry facilities and a student lounge, three faculty apartments and a secure common area dividing it from the Allyn Building. Sasaki Associates of Boston, MA will serve as architect and VIP Associates of Syracuse, NY will oversee construction. The Board anticipates commencing construction in the spring of 2009.
